Food for thought: Kareem's, Delhi

Posted by Aditya (Rewari, India) on 23 July 2008 in Food & Cuisine.

The Chandni Chowk is one of the places in the world where you can find a Masjid, a Temple and a Gurudwara in the same neighborhood. And that’s not the only reason why I love this place. This area is home to India’s most succulent Jalebis (sweet), most delicious Paranthas (fried Indian bread) and the most heavenly Kebabs. Established in 1650 AD, it’s crawling with galis (lanes); each one having its own specialty.
Adjacent to the Jama Masjid is the Leaky Cauldron of Delhi aka Kareem’s Hotel; only visible to the fanatical non-vegetarians.
It’s been serving the Delhi junta since 1911 and has been in many top to-eat lists throughout the years. You must eat here if you are in Delhi, the local Metro (subway/tube) making it very convenient to visit. It’s just a 8/- ride from Rajiv Chowk.
And the menu is pretty cheap too, you’ll get loads more than you expect in your plate. Do try the Mutton Burra, the Murgh-e-Jahangiri and the Roomali rotis to go with it.
Don’t forget to leave your calorimeters behind for this one.
And dig in! Bring out that animal in you.
Cheers!
